My name is Roya Momeni and I am a student at Monash University conducting a research project with Dr Simon Moss, a lecturer in the Department of Psychology. The research is part of a degree towards a Master of Organisational Psychology.
Our study is designed to examine the impact of managerial style on the outcomes for people who work from home. Currently, it is known that working from home has many benefits for both employers and employees, such as enhanced satisfaction with ones’ job. There are also studies showing that working from home is not effective in some instances, but little is known about why this discrepancy exists. Our study will examine possible explanations for this discrepancy by investigating the role of the manager in affecting their subordinates outcomes. This study will highlight avenues that can be pursued to optimize the benefits of working from home.
We are inviting all working adults (18+ years) to participate. We are seeking individuals who either work for an organisation that offers a policy, permitting employees to work from home, sometimes called telecommuting or teleworking, as well as individuals who work for an organization that does not offer these policies. If you work from home on a full-time basis please do not complete the questionnaire. If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire online. Your participation will benefit more people to undertake working from home and increase work-life-balance.
You may choose to stop completing the survey at any time. Your anonymity will be maintained as you do not need to provide any identification. When we have finished collecting all the data, the surveys and any related data will be stored in a locked filing cabinet at Monash University for a period of five years, in accordance with University guidelines. After this time the surveys will be shredded and disposed of. The information will be presented as a whole, with no individual results, so no personal information about you will be revealed. If you wish to be notified about publications and conference presentations, or if you wish to receive a summary of the research findings, please contact your Human Resource Manager or Dr. Simon Moss at the end of 2008.
